What are you going to do after you receive a Pink Slip?

More and more people start their day at work like everyday, only to be called into someone’s office to hear the phrase “I’m sorry, we’re going to have to let you you go.”
In today's world it doesn't matter if you went to a top university, have a bachelor or master degree or if you are currently stocking the shelves at Walmart.  If you work for anyone besides yourself, someday, somewhere, you can hear the words "We have to let you Go with budget cuts"
Many schools teachers are too familiar with these words or many are becoming familiar with them as their Union Leaders instruct them to Stand Firm.   Stand Firm they may however if they do choose to stand firm as many Union Auto Workers did they will find themselves in line at the food pantry.
We live in a different world today!  Job security is gone.
You need to ask yourself hard questions as, What can you do too protect your families against outsourcing, pink slips, or having your hands in the faint of somebody else?   It seems these days the person be it your superior, team leader gets their walking papers shortly afterwards.  Nobody is safe in today's environment working for somebody else.
As you walk out to your vehicle with your cardboard box filled with memorabilia of your days at your job.   You need to take a deep breath and realize the world is moving forward and so shall you.
Ask for Severance Pay
First off, if your employer doesn’t offer you any severance pay or benefits package, ask for it.
Your employer may offer you severance pay or benefits.  Whatever they offer, ask for more, it can’t hurt, and every dime extra, every month of benefits like healthcare or health insurance coverage you can get is all to the good.  Besides, the worst they can do is say no.  If they balk at your suggestion without giving you an outright “no”, push them a little and see if they’ll up the ante.  It they so no to more cash, ask for benefits.  An extension on healthcare coverage or life insurance. At the very least they may be required by law to provide you with a list of resources and possibly paid retraining.

Now you are ready to head for home.  When you arrive you should let the significant people in your life know.  Don’t try to hide it.  Just come out and tell them.  It will affect their lives too so they have a right to know.
After you’ve done that you can move on to the next step.

Apply for Unemployment Benefits

You may find this distasteful and equate it with asking for charity or welfare, but it’s not.  This a benefit provided for you and paid  on your behalf by your former employer.  There is nothing to be ashamed of in receiving unemployment benefits.  Do it today.  Tomorrow at the latest, as many states have a waiting period before benefits begin.

If you were lucky enough to get some kind of severance then the next step can be approached a little more leisurely and needn’t be as drastic.  Remember, even though you have your application in for Unemployment Benefits, those benefits are substantially less than you are used to receiving from your normal paycheck.  So you must think about giving your budget a virtual makeover.

Adjusting Your Budget

The value of a dollar changes when there aren’t any dollars coming in.  Getting a handle on your budget and slashing non-essential spending is a good way to ensure that you weather your time without an income.
That new swimsuit and celebrity hairstyle…not this week you’re not.  It might be time to take your Harley Davidson down to the car dealership and trade it in for a more affordable Ford.  Eating out?  Sorry, not this week either.  Now I’m not saying you have to starve but get everyone on board.  Learn how to make homemade party appetizers instead buying that expensive tray from the caterer.  Eat frugally.  Want to keep the dog?  Learn how to make a homemade dog treat recipe.  Learn the tricks that will extend the life of products you use everyday.  That Kindle or iPhone you were thinking of getting?  Postpone it.
Do you really need cable TV?  A newspaper subscription?  That’s why I’m not mentioning your internet.  It can provide news, entertainment, phone service, email, job search and resume help, networking, you can even take an online course, etc.  Keep the internet up as long as you can.  But when it comes to online games get the free download.  Better yet get the kids working their brains by doing a Sudoku puzzle.

Your savings and investments

With the country quickly heading for double digit unemployment rates, not only do you have to think about your spending but your saving as well.  First off, since you no longer have an income coming in, stop putting aside.  I know, I know, you need to save for retirement.  Right now, without a job, you need all the money you have available to keep yourself fed, clothed, and a roof over you and your loved ones, not another 50 shares of XYZ company.  If you absolutely must continue to invest, use short-term Certificates of Deposit.  Start with the 3 month pay-date variety, and stagger your investments in case you need the money in the future.  Once you have your income situation in hand then you can make more long term investments.
When it comes to your 401k and IRA investments, if it looks like it will become necessary to tap these – do not wait until the last minute, as these may take awhile to liquidate.  However, touching these investments should be a last resort as you will incur serious tax and penalty complications.  Perhaps losing as much a 50%.
You will need to decide if you are going to keep your current health insurance via Cobra.  Usually it is a bad deal  cost-wise, if your spouse works see if you can be added to their policy.  Check with your life insurance agent to see if you can get a short moratorium on payments while you are unemployed.
If you are like most, your home will be your biggest investment.  Can you make the payments?  The one thing you don’t want to do is take out a loan, line of credit, or refinance unless it will significantly reduce your current payment.  Check with your lender as you may be eligible under federally mandated loan modification for relief.  Programs are literally springing up overnight so keep looking.  If worse comes to worse and it looks like you will be foreclosed on, check with the lender regarding a short sale in lieu of foreclosure.

Decide Your Course of Action for the Future

Maybe it’s time to go back to school and get that degree you wanted.  Maybe it’s time start your own business.  Aren’t you tired of being at the beck and call of an employer?  With no real security for tomorrow except at the whim of your employer.
If you decide you will begin the job hunt once again, get to it.  Look online, network with friends, get the word out that you are available and ready.
On the other hand, did you know that most of the great corporations of today were started during the Great Depression?  Why shouldn’t it be you with your picture on the wall as founder of the world’s next great company?  Going it solo can be frightening and challenging.  But suppose you love woodworking, wouldn’t you rather earn an income and spend your time doing something you love?
Speaking of time…

Make Time for Yourself

I recently heard someone refer to unemployment as fun-employment.  What they meant was that now they suddenly had all this time on their hands and they had no obligations to an employer to worry about.  They could go to the beach.  They pick up that biography they always wanted to read from the library.  Maybe you’ll check out the local art school and pick up a craft or two.
The whole point is, do what you need to do.  Don’t get depressed.  Look at it that this is a brand new start for you.  Change your world.  Change yourself.  Become yourself and rediscover your values.
Keep a Great Attitude!

Maternal Vitamin D Status Influences Early Childhood Dental Health

October 28, 2009

Maternal Vitamin D Status Influences Early Childhood Dental Health

At a Glance

For the first time, new clinical research out of Canada provides evidence for a relationship between maternal vitamin D levels and select markers of infant dental health.

The relationship between vitamin D and adult bone health is well-understood. However, until recently, less has been known about the relationship between maternal vitamin D status and infant bone health. A new study out of the University of Manitoba sheds new light on this subject by examining the relationship between maternal vitamin D status and two measures of infant dental health: enamel hypoplasia (EH) and early childhood caries (ECC).

206 pregnant women enrolled in the study during their second trimester. Serum vitamin D analyses revealed that more than a third of the women were vitamin D deficient (34.5%, deficiency defined as <= 35 nmol/L). Only 21 women had adequate levels of vitamin D (10.5%, adequacy defined as >= 80 nmol/L).

Over the next two years, 135 infants returned for a dental health examination. 21.6% had EH while 33.6% had ECC. Mothers of children with EH had lower vitamin D concentrations during pregnancy, though the result didn’t quite reach statistical significance (43.2 vs 51.4 nmol/L, p=0.07). However, mothers of children with ECC had significantly lower vitamin D levels than those whose children were caries-free (43.9 vs 52.8 nmol/L, p=0.034).

This study is the first to provide evidence for a correlation between maternal vitamin D levels and infant dental health, and additional research currently underway should shed further light on this important issue.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids & Death Rates in Female Heart Attack Survivors

At a Glance
New research indicates that decreased levels of EPA, an omega-3 fatty acid found in fish, are related to an increased risk of death in women following a heart attack.

Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids are known to have beneficial effects on many forms of cardiovascular
disease, and new evidence indicates a positive effect on prognoses for survivors of acute myocardial infarctions (AMI), or heart attacks.

A September 2009 article from Circulation Journal reported an association between decreased levels of the omega-3 fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in women and a greater risk of all-cause mortality following a heart attack.
The study included 365 men and 143 women enrolled in the Infarction Prognosis Study registry of acute myocardial infarction. Blood samples were analyzed for glucose, lipids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and other factors. The subjects were followed for an average of 16.1 months.

Over the follow-up period, 29 patients died of cardiovascular causes and 7 from noncardiovascular causes. Those who died were older and tended to have a lower body mass index (BMI), a history of hypertension, lower total and LDL cholesterol levels and higher C-reactive protein levels (a marker of inflammation). EPA levels in survivors comprised 1.49 percent of total plasma phospholipids, compared to 1.24 percent in non-survivors. Lower plasma levels of EPA (but not DHA) were an independent predictor for all-cause-mortality in patients with AMI, but this relationship was significant only in female patients.

The researchers attribute this particular benefit of EPA to its anti-inflammatory effect, which has been found to be greater than DHA in some studies.

Pharmaceutical GMP standards are far more stringent than the food GMP requirements set by the U.S. government for supplements. To adhere to the exacting standards of pharmaceutical GMP, and to ensure the quality of every product manufactured, USANA inspects all raw ingredients before they are mixed, tests the product during manufacturing, and performs a final analysis before any product is sent to the customer. White Collar MLM (network marketing)

Many of those underemployed professionals are going straight into network-marketing companies. The same technology that eliminated their jobs in the Fortune 500 is now creating opportunities in the expanding Wave-three sector.

Why network marketing brings in residual income: http://winnerscircletraining.com/index.php?

Recruiters are hard at work reaping Corporate America's human castoffs. Wave-Three networkers target doctors, lawyers, CPA's, stockbrokers, and corporate presidents, tired of the rat race.

I took my son to my doctor last week for an ear infection. My female doctor has been in practice for over 17 years and has only taken 2 lunch breaks in 17 years! How do I know this because they are in the process of moving their offices so its a little chaotic and she likes a system. She recently learned their is a whole world out there where people actually do business lunches. She never know this until one week ago. She is in the rat race and is tired of it as the rest of the world.

The Amway Decade
At least two of the world's foremost financial forecasters have predicted that network-marketing companies will thrive in the troubled times ahead.

A type of business that prospers in hard times is the informal business run from home....The 1990's was Tupperware parties, Avon ladies, and Amway dealers. All three companies use network marketing.

Financially Free

In the last ten years, millions lost their jobs through mergers, acquisitions, downsizings, and plant closings. Don't look for much relief in the years ahead. Fundamental changes are sweeping every sector of the economy. And one of the by-products of this change is massive, long-term unemployment.

One reason is that technology has made many jobs obsolete, from the factory worker displaced by automated production lines, to the middle manager nudged out by computerized office networks.

Companies are placing the same basket of goods and services with fewer and fewer employees. Massive layoffs with increased productivity! In the next few years, we're going to see fantastic economic growth, but we'll see 20 percent unemployment. But that's the reality!

If you think you are ready to join my team, I'd like you to honestly ask yourself the following questions:
  • Do you want to be financially free?
  • Do you want to end money pressures?
  • Do you want to add an extra stream of income into your life?
  • Do you want to work directly with me on my newest challenge?

If so, I want success for you too! If you want it for yourself and you want my help to achieve it, respond immediately by emailing me at cindee@dishmail.net to learn more.

P.S. Residual Income sets you and your family up for life. Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants are jumping on the bandwagon. They want their life back!

Are you working incredible hours in your small business?

Many of those who thought they could escape that trap by becoming their own bosses in small businesses, franchises, or consultancies instead find they are caught in an even tighter vise. With their life savings often on the line, they work incredible hours. Customers and clients pay them like small businesses, but they are taxed, regulated, and sometimes sued like they were big businesses with bottomless resources.

We will show you how the old employment model is breaking apart. Only the foolish, complacent, or laze refuse to see it and seize the opportunities to protect themselves and their families. Consider these signs of the professional world's increasing inability to provide either stability or challenge in today's economy.

  • In an era of historic economic prosperity, we are seeing unprecedented downsizings and layoffs.
  • Companies are scaling back traditional benefits such as health care coverage, telling employees to go find it on their own.

World of Work is Changing

The world of work is changing , and it will never be the same. The old model you trade forty years of your time, talent, and singular devotion to a company or profession in exchange for a secure and steadily growing income, peer recognition, and employer loyalty has been shattered. It will not be reassembled.

For most of us, it's an upsetting and fearful prospect. At least until our eyes are opened to the new possibilities replacing the old verities.

It is not surprising that in a society that values security above almost everything else, many would try to cling to that old work model even when there's not much left to cling on to.

For years; you would get up in the morning and kiss your family good-bye and commute every day to a job or an office, work hard and well, bring tasks home when needed, and travel when required. Your strive for advancement and recognition in your organization or profession.

Your superiors measure you success according to the standards they have established, or if you have your own business or practice, your customers and clients do based on the rate at which they keep coming back.

USANA is a great opportunity for you to join The New Professionals ; we are the rise of Network Marketing As the Next Major Profession. http://cindyconradt.usana.com/

How Much Protein Should I be Taking?

So how Much Protein Should I be Taking?

This depends on your body size, training schedule and program. It is important that you increase your intake to cater for your training so your muscles can survive your training sessions.

Protein intake required for the average person - who performs a light amount of exercise.

Approximately 1 gram of protein per kilo of body weight

Protein intake required an Athlete who has a heavy training schedule that involves alot of resistance exercise, sports specific training or weight training

Approximately 2 grams of protein per kilo of body weight

Protein intake required for the person - who has a hard core heavy weight training schedule.

Approximately 2.5 grams of protein per kilo of body weight

USANA provides healthy protein shakes and bars http://cindyconradt.usana.com/

The above are approximations and examples to give you some idea of what the bodies requirements are for protein. Notice the difference in the protein intake for the programs that involve more muscle damage?

Keeping Up with Consuming Larger Amounts of Protein

Such high intakes of protein can be difficuBoldlt to keep up with on a daily basis. So as well as including the following protein sources in your low fat healthy eating program you can also use a protein powder. (see below)

Sources of protein:

Lean Red Meat, Lean White Meat: Fish, Chicken or turkey (no skin), Eggs (preferably egg whites) Beans and legumes (which are high in carbohydrates). Nuts (nuts are also high in fat)... just to name a few.

Its important to intake protein after muscle toning exercises because your muscles tear and need to rebuild themselves. Protein is the ingredient for recovery.

Protein Shakes and Protein Bars provide high proteins and can be consumed while you are on your way to work.

Can Protein Increase Your Muscle and Training Results?

Protein is vital after any type of exercise training especially strength/toning training. Our muscles need to be repaired and protein is our source.

I believe you will enjoy the great questions with answers below from Mandy Gibbons an exercise trainer.

Getting Fed Up with Your Lack Of Muscle Tone? Frustrated with Your Muscle Growth?

Have you ever wondered why you weight train like crazy and yet your muscle tone decreases? You've increased your weights, cardio'd your head off to lose extra body fat, so you can see your muscle definition, but none of this seems to work. You are not sure what you are doing wrong but you are getting fed up not getting results.

So why Would Protein Help?

When exercising, particularly weight training, our bodies need plenty of protein to develop and maintain muscle. Protein is broken down into amino acids, then turned back into protein to produce and repair our muscles after our training session. Because amino acids can be burned by the body during exercise, especially aerobic exercise, it is important that we make the effort to supplement our muscles to help them repair faster and more efficiently.

What Happens to my Muscles if I don't Bother to Increase my Protein Intake?

At the beginning of this article I mentioned instances that you may be familiar with. If you are training hard and don't bother to supplement your muscles with extra protein your muscles can start to deplete - due to your body turning to muscle / protein as a source of energy.

Food Supplies Nutrients Lost

The variety and types of food commodities in the U.S. food supply and the nutrients they provide have undergone significant changes since 1909. In the 1930's, advancements in food-processing technologies introduced into the marketplace canned, frozen, and packaged food items, such as canned soups and vegetables, frozen vegetables and fruits, and packaged cereals. Nationally, the result led to an increase in the availability and shelf life of these foods. Also, in the 1930's margarine was fortified with vitamin A and its precursor beta-carotene (for color).

Consuming a balanced diet that meets the recommended servings of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, essential fatty acids and lean sources of protein still may not ensure ample nutrient intake due to changes in our food supply.

Changes in the average nutrient content of 43 fruits and vegetables between 1950 and 1999 resulted in the following:

• 6% decrease in protein

• 16% decrease in calcium

• 9% decrease in phosphorus

• 15% decrease in iron

• 38% decrease in riboflavin

• 20% decrease in ascorbic acid

Food quality changes like these are the result of multiple factors:

Storage time and maturity at harvest

Nutrients can be harmed during storage or transportation. Storing tomatoes for 5 days decrease ascorbic acid by almost 13%. Harvesting plants prior to proper maturity diminishes nutrient content potential, particularly for fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C and polyphenols.

USANA - Network Marketing

USANA - Network Marketing

Lawyers, doctors, dentists, university professors, stockbrokers, company managers, professional athletes, real estate developers, real estate investors, and small business owners are all walking away from their success and money in these fields. All of these people have poured years of hard work building lucrative careers.

Why are these people walking away from their successful careers?

All of these people were extremely successful however they were unfulfilled.

Many of these people laughed at network marketing in the past. However, today they joined and are earning higher incomes than in their careers. They are enjoying life with less stress and higher earnings than in their career they walked away from.
