Financially Free
In the last ten years, millions lost their jobs through mergers, acquisitions, downsizings, and plant closings. Don't look for much relief in the years ahead. Fundamental changes are sweeping every sector of the economy. And one of the by-products of this change is massive, long-term unemployment.
One reason is that technology has made many jobs obsolete, from the factory worker displaced by automated production lines, to the middle manager nudged out by computerized office networks.
Companies are placing the same basket of goods and services with fewer and fewer employees. Massive layoffs with increased productivity! In the next few years, we're going to see fantastic economic growth, but we'll see 20 percent unemployment. But that's the reality!
